In the first six months of this year, the Port Governance Agency recorded an increase in the volume of cargo handling, compared to the same period last year.
7.8 million tons of cargo were transhipped on the rivers in Serbia, which represents an increase of 8.3 percent compared to the first half of 2020.
The most frequently transshipped types of cargo are gravel, sand and stone aggregates, which together account for almost 24.4 percent of transshipments. Grains are ranked second, with 18 percent share, whereas coal is in the third place with 14.5 percent. Oil and oil products are ranked fourth with 14.2 percent share. Ores are on the fifth place having the share of 10.2 percent of the total transshipment.
The volume of transported gravel, sand and stone aggregates indicates an increase in activities in the field of construction industry in the Republic of Serbia through the realisation of infrastructure projects of the Government of Serbia. Grains are ranked second thanks to good conditions on the international market of mercantile goods. In addition, larger quantities of coal were transshipped, as a result of the work of PE Elektroprivreda Srbije.
When it comes to passenger traffic, international passenger terminals in Serbia welcomed the first cruisers after several months of suspension of cruising.
In the following period, the Agency will continue to make efforts to improve the area of port activities, and special attention will be paid to the recovery and further development of international waterway passenger transport.
