In the first six months of 2017, the Port governance agency registered almost 4.5 million tons of reloaded goods, or 12% more than in the same period in 2016. The most widespread type of cargo shipped this year was gravel, then grain, ore, oil and bulk cargo. The growth of economic activity on rivers in Serbia is the result of successful cooperation between the Agency and the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure in the implementation of joint projects.
It is also registered 394 port calls of cruise ships which is an increase of 13% compared to the beginning of last year's nautical season.
River passenger traffic in Serbia shows a steady growth trend. Accordingly, the Port Authority has included the development of cruising in the business priority for this year as it represents a development opportunity for local self-governments located on the Danube, primarily in eastern Serbia.
The highest number of cruisers since the beginning of the season has been recorded in Belgrade - 225, then in Novi Sad 124 and Donji Milanovac 39. In addition to the development of international passenger ports, the Agency will also develop domestic line traffic in the upcoming period.
Based on the results so far, the Agency's forecast is that more than ten million tonnes of cargo will be reloaded in Serbian ports by the end of the year, and is is expected that thousand cruisers will enter passenger terminals by the end of the season.
