Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, phD, visited on Saturday, June, 6 2020, together with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Rasim Ljajic, and the President of the Municipality of Zemun, Dejan Matic, the newly built international passenger terminal in Zemun. The visit was also attended by the Vuk Perovic, director of the Port Governance Agency.
On this occasion, Mihajlovic stated that this event is very important for Zemun, Belgrade and the whole Serbia, and that regardless of corona virus epidemic that stopped the tourist season, it does not mean that we should not be ready.
"Everything was completed on time. We expect that next year we will have at least 1,500 cruisers that will dock on the territory of Serbia - in Kladovo, Donji Milanovac, Sremski Karlovci, Ram, Golubac will also be built, because we have decided to build infrastructure in this area," she said.
Deputy Prime Minister added that it is important that Belgrade and Serbia become more and more important in tourism sector from year to year.
"It can be seen by the number of cruisers and tourists. As the line ministry, we will continue to work on the construction of infrastructure. In the previous 20, 30 years, no investments were made in water transport, now 350 million euros are being invested - from cleaning of Danube, Djerdap 1 and 2 navigational locks, to the port infrastructure. It is important that Serbia has water corridors as well as road and rail corridors," said Mihajlovic.
Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic said that it was important to build the infrastructure in the vacuum of the tourist year, which we will use in the years to come.
"This is the seventh international passenger terminal in Serbia, which will contribute to the development of nautical tourism. With it, we complete and expand the tourist offer of Belgrade. 750 cruisers came last year, this year we expected a thousand, I believe we will make up for this shortcoming next year. Also, with this, we use all the potential of Danube River and together with other countries we will work on the development of tourism ", said Ljajic.
The visit was also attended by the assistant mayor of Belgrade, Andreja Mladenovic.
"We are proud of the new terminal and we will do our best for a large number of boats and tourists to visit our city in the future. In recent years, Zemun has become one big construction site - we have fixed Gardos, several streets, hundreds of facades. We will not stop there, we will work on Kej Oslobodjenja and Glavna street. As a native of Zemun, I can say that we have been dreaming of this pier for decades ", said Mladenovic.
Dejan Matic, President of the Municipality of Zemun, pointed out that this is a great day for Zemun and the dream they have been dreaming for a long time has come true, and he thanked the Government of Serbia for its support and help.
"By building the terminal, we have created conditions so that all cruisers that have passed by Zemun for decades can now stop by, and that Zemun, as a good host, can host them and show them everything that adorns it. The joint work of the municipality with the Government of Serbia and the city gives results ", said Matic.
