The Director of the Port Governance Agency, Vuk Perović, and the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, visited the ongoing dredging works at the future marina site in Smederevo today.
Perović highlighted that the Agency has invested 50 million dinars in dredging the Smederevo marina. “The works include removing approximately 50,000 cubic meters of silt. By clearing the riverbed, we will create the prerequisites for the further construction of this nautical facility,” he stated.
He announced the continuation of the infrastructure project, revealing plans for the next phase. “We aim to begin the second phase next year, equipping the marina with pontoons and making it operational by the end of 2025 or early 2026,” Perović added.
According to him, the Smederevo marina is one of five marinas planned under the “Sail Through Serbia” project.
“Our goal is to harness Smederevo’s potential and strengthen Serbia’s nautical sector. Additionally, we aim to increase the share of nautical tourism in the overall tourism revenue of our country,” Perović emphasized.
Mayor Jasmina Vojinović noted that the dredging of the future marina’s aquatorium is a clear indicator that Smederevo, a city on the Danube, is steadily approaching the start of its construction.
“With the marina, we will be able to better utilize the opportunities the Danube offers. Our advantage lies in the wealth of tourist, cultural, and sports-recreational activities held year-round, as well as the proximity of Smederevo Fortress, which will serve as the backdrop to the marina,” Vojinović explained.
She added that Smederevo deserves recognition as a key point on the nautical map of Serbia, Europe, and the world, while connecting with other Danube cities via waterway transport. “This infrastructure project will undoubtedly contribute to the development of the economy and tourism, not only in Smederevo but across the entire country,” the Mayor concluded.
