Representatives of the Port Governance Agency visited Donji Milanovac and met with the Presidents of the municipality, Dragan Popović, and representatives of the port operator PCE "Donji Milanovac", PE "National Park Đerdap", Archaeological Site Lepenski Vir and the Tourist Organization of Majdanpek Municipality. On that occasion, they discussed the further improvement of international passenger traffic in this municipality. The meeting and tour of the international passenger terminal were organized as part of the activities in the scope of "Awake the Danube" project.
Srđa Lješević, head of the Agency's Center for Port Operations, pointed out that the Agency's project "Awake the Danube" aims to promote cruising in Upper and Lower Danube. According to him, the project connects locations located on the banks of the most important European river and raises the visibility of Serbia's nautical potential. Lješević stated that the Agency recorded 114 port calls in Donji Milanovac in the first six months of this year, which is by 25 percent more than in the same period of 2019, which represents the best nautical season in our country. "We will continue to intensively develop international and domestic passenger waterway transport in our country. For years, Donji Milanovac has been interesting to tourists due to its natural and historical treasures, such as the Lepenski Vir and the National Park Đerdap. In the following period, the Agency will work on the construction of the infrastructure of new international passenger terminals and marinas on the Danube and the Sava," concluded Lješević.
The delegation of Donji Milanovac underlined that the project "Awake the Danube" is of great importance for the promotion of Eastern Serbia and Lower Danube in the international framework. In this way, the economic development of the Danube municipalities is improved. They announced that the local self-government will work on improving the quality and diversity of the tourist offer in the future.
The participants of the meeting agreed that the implementation of infrastructure projects in the field of passenger waterway transport contributes to local economic development, increased incomes and further promotion of nautical traffic in our country.
