The European Federation of River Ports (EFIP) held this year's session of the General Assembly in the Romanian city of Galati. Representatives of the Port Governance Agency, which is the first Serbian full member of this organization, participated in the assembly session.
Antoine Berbain, CEO in charge of HAROPA PORT territorial direction of Paris and of the Multimodality project, has been elected the new president of EFIP.
During the meeting, the PGA presented the results in freight and passenger transport, achieved in the previous period. In addition, the participants of the meeting got acquainted with the development projects that the PGA is implementing in order to improve the transport of goods and passengers by inland waterways.
A panel discussion on "The position of river ports in the European network" was held at the session, after which a tour of the port in Galati was organized.
The participants of the meeting agreed that river ports occupy an important position in the European green logistics network. The development of ports and water transport as sustainable and environmentally friendly will contribute to the green transition and the achievement of the goals of the European Green Agreement, the Assembly concluded.
The management of EFIP supported the proposal of the PGA to host the General Assembly, and the next session will be held in October 2023, in Belgrade. Having in mind that the members of the federation come from 18 European countries, the gathering in Belgrade represents an opportunity for Serbia and inland waterway transport in our country to be promoted internationally.
