The passenger terminal in Golubac welcomed the first cruiser, ‘’River Beatris’’, which arrived on the 8th of April, and opened the nautical season in the Eastern Serbia.
The international passenger terminal in Golubac is one of six terminals announced so far and put into operation. In 2017, passenger terminals in Smederevo and Kladovo got their first operators and they are ready to welcome first cruisers in this nautical season, while the passenger terminal in Golubac will be managed by the Port Governance Agency, until the announcement of the Public Call for the selection of the operator.
For the third year in a row, nautical tourism in Serbia has recorded a stable growth of about 5% annually, and an increasing number of cruisers with high categorization on the rivers in Serbia has been noted. The Port Governance Agency, in cooperation with other relevant institutions and ministries, is continuously creating the conditions for improving this type of passenger traffic. Simultaneously with attracting cruisers and foreign tourists, the Agency is promoting the domestic liner traffic.
Port Governance Agency, together with UNDP launched the project ‘’Awake the Danube’’, in order to promote passenger terminals in Serbia, especially in the east of the country, and include them into the European tourist map.
The project ‘’Awake the Danube’’ promotes the cultural heritage of the cities on the Danube, in the Eastern Serbia, as well as the unused potential which will be opened by the development of water transport and tourism of the Lower Danube. This "Museum on the Danube" will offer tourists many hidden attractions, sights and the opportunity to "cruise" through several historical epochs - from the first civilizations, through the Roman legacy, the Middle Ages to the modern era. In this way, Serbia will be placed among the leaders and unavoidable destinations in the Danube region, when it comes to naturist tourism.
