Pro Danube International: Serbia among European leaders in water transport

In the past four years, Serbia has shown how to establish a system that is the requirement for a successful realization of big and important projects, it was said at the General Meeting of Pro Danube International, an association bringing together the biggest companies in the field of inland waterway transport and logistics.

According to Manfred Seitz, Secretary General of Pro Danube International and a long-term director of Via Donau, in charge of waterway maintenance in Austria, this makes Serbia one of the leaders of the development of water transport in Europe today, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

At the General Meeting held on March 15-16 in Vienna, representatives of the ministry presented the water transport projects they were realizing at the moment, including the adaptation of the navigation lock at HPP Djerdap 1, the construction of ports in Smederevo and Belgrade, the addressing of the critical sectors on the Danube and the Sava, as well as three development projects in the field of intelligent transport systems.

The gathering was attended by the representatives of the European Commission, the competent ministries of the EU member states, the Port of Constanta, as well as representatives of a large number of companies from the EU which are leaders in various areas of water transport, such as port management and shipyards, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure reported.
