Director of the Port Governance Agency Vuk Perovic and General Director of the National Company "Maritime Danube Ports Administration" Galati, Romania, Nicolae Vizinteanu, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of inland waterway transport, followed by a bilateral meeting of delegations.
The memorandum formalizes and improves cooperation between the two port authorities in the Republic of Serbia and Romania and will contribute to increasing the visibility of ports in the Danube basin on the European port map, development of economic activities in their hinterland and integration of ports into international multimodal transport chains.
The signing was attended by the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Serbia, H. E. Silvia Davidoiu, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Romania, H. E. Stefan Tomasevic and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic.
Minister Momirovic pointed out that Romania is a synonym of friendship with Serbia, because it is a country with which there are no open issues, and according to him, "Such relations have existed for centuries." On this occasion, Momirovic emphasized that investments in water transport and infrastructure in Serbia have been lacking in the last several decades and announced that this is changing today.
The Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Silvia Davidoiu, said that this signing was a historic moment within the framework of cooperation between the two countries in the field of navigation on the Danube.
She said that the Memorandum is the legal basis for the exchange of information and investments, and that it will enable a better flow of goods in both directions.
After the signing, the first bilateral meeting of delegations was held, at which future activities regarding the upcoming cooperation were agreed, and the director of the Port Governance Agency opened the meeting and stressed the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding for further improvement of ports in the Danube region.
Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Romania, H. E. Stefan Tomasevic said that the Memorandum will further strengthen the relations between the Republic of Serbia and Romania, as well as that the Danube River is of great importance for both sides. He especially emphasized the plan of the Republic of Serbia, which envisages significant investments in port infrastructure.
The memorandum of understanding will successfully achieve the goals for further improvement of ports in the Danube region, it was concluded at the meeting.
