The director of the Port Governance Agency, Vuk Perović, met with the director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, Matej Zakonješk. On that occasion, they discussed the possibilities for improving the cooperation between the two institutions regarding the development of ports in Serbia.
Perović pointed out that the Agency is committed to improving port activities in Serbia and presented development activities in the field of ports, international passenger ports and marinas. He stated that the focus of the Agency is to follow European guidelines in the segment of environmental protection. According to him, in the previous period, the Agency launched initial projects related to ship waste management and the use of alternative fuels.
Zakonjšek said that the Transport Community is actively working on transport connections, both in the region and in the neighbouring EU member states. He said that they provide support to the countries of the Western Balkans in development projects and the adoption of European legislation, and praised Serbia's progress so far. Zakonjšek emphasized that the priority of the Transport Community is sustainable transport, with further investments in railways and water transport. He especially underlined the importance of water transport, as the most environmentally friendly, and added that it is important to work on its improvement, modernization and decarbonization.
Perovic and Zakonjšek agreed that further cooperation between the Agency and the Transport Community will contribute to achieving the goals and promoting the connection of ports in Serbia with ports in the region and Europe.
