The Port Governance Agency has recorded 3.7 million tons of transhipped cargo on rivers in Serbia in the first three months of this year, which is ten percent more than the same period last year.
The most commonly transhipped goods are gravel, sand, and stone aggregates, accounting for 32 percent of the total transhoppment. In second place are oil and oil products with a 16.5 percent share, while other bulk cargoes, such as mineral fertilizers and industrial salt, are in third place with an 11.8 percent share. Grains are in fourth place, accounting for 11.2 percent of the total transhippment in the first quarter of this year, while coal is in fifth place with a 10.5 percent share.
The greatest growth was observed in grains, where after a longer unfavourable period, 412,000 tons were transhipped in the first three months of this year, compared to 31,000 tons of this type of goods transhipped in the same quarter of 2023.
The transhippment of gravel, sand, and stone aggregates is higher by 56 percent compared to the first three months of last year, primarily due to the realization of infrastructure projects by the Government of Serbia.
In international passenger traffic, the Agency recorded 24 port calls and 3,509 passengers as of April 1st. The number of passengers is three percent higher compared to the same period last year.
The most port calls were achieved in Belgrade - nine. In Novi Sad, six port calls were recorded, five in Golubac, while port calls were achieved in Donji Milanovac.
It is expected that the number of passengers in this year's nautical season will increase by ten percent, meaning that Serbia will be visited by 200,000 tourists from cruise ships.
