Port Governance Agency presented the continuation of the project "Awake the Danube", which promotes passenger traffic and tourism of the Upper and Lower Danube regions, connecting the eleven authentic cities: Smederevo, Kladovo, Donji Milanovac, Kostolac, Golubac, Veliko Gradište, Novi Now, Belgrade-Zemun, Sremski Karlovci, Apatin, Banoštor.
On this occasion, the main goals, plans and project activities have been presented. Partners on the project also presented the authentic potentials offered by the Danube Region of Serbia, as well as the current results of the Port Governance Agency.
,,For the fourth year in a row, the Agency's data show significant increases in cargo handling and record quantities of transhipped cargo. In the previous year, on rivers in Serbia, 11.8 million tons were transhipped, or 11.5% more than in 2017.
International passenger transport has been marked by a steady growth trend year-on-year. According to the Agency’sdata, during last year's nautical tourism season, the six international passenger terminals in Serbia recorded 1,150 port calls and over 157,000 embarked and disembarked passengers. Compared to 2017, the number of port calls was up 15%, while the number of embarked/disembarked passengers was up by a fifth.
