The Port Governance Agency signed an agreement today with a consortium led by the consultancy firm Public Transport Consult d.o.o. to develop a feasibility study with a conceptual design for floating structures for the upcoming international specialized exhibition, EXPO Belgrade 2027. Among others, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering at the University of Belgrade will participate in the study's development.
The goal of the study is to create a conceptual design for floating structures, specifically hotel ships, to provide additional accommodation capacity in Belgrade during this significant event for Serbia.
It is anticipated that EXPO Belgrade 2027 will attract more than three million visitors, highlighting the need for increased guest accommodation capacity.
Temporary accommodation can be provided by cruise ships or other floating structures, following models successfully implemented at similar international events.
The study will consider three potential locations – two on the Sava River and one on the Danube – from which the most suitable will be selected. This location must allow for five consecutive berthing spaces, accommodating up to two ships per berth, with a maximum length of 135 meters and a width of 12 meters.
According to the plan, the ships will serve as hotels for a period of 12 months, starting from December 1, 2026.
