Port Governance Agency recorded in the first six months of 2018 a significant increase of cargo traffic on rivers in Serbia. 5.5 million tons of goods were reloaded, which represens an increase of 26%, compared to the same period in 2017.
The most frequently reloaded goods, which had the most significant increase this year, are gravel, sand and stone aggregates. Ores are in second place, followed by bulk cargo.
518 port calls were recorded at the six international passenger terminals by the 1st of July, i.e. 31% more compared to the beginning of last year's nautical season. The number of passengers increased by 38%, so that 70 thousand tourists visited Serbia from the river.
The majority of the port calls were recorded in Belgrade-272, then in Novi Sad 154 and in Donji Milanovac 58. 21 port calls were recorded at the international passenger terminal in Golubac, which was opened in April 2018.
With the support of the relevant Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, the work of the Port Governance Agency will be focused on investments in port infrastructure as well as the opening of new international passenger terminals on the Danube river, with the emphasis on the development of domestic line traffic in the forthcoming period. Two new international passenger terminals on the Danube river, Zemun and Sremski Karlovci, will be opened for cruisers in the nautical season 2018.
Based on the constant trend of growth in cargo and passenger traffic, the Agency predicts that over 12 million tons of cargo will be reloaded in Serbian ports by the end of the year, while more than 1100 cruise ships are expected to arrive at international passenger terminals by the end of this year’s nautical season.
